    Hi Maddie, Congratulations on your degree. Had to leave you a comment because like you I did my degree through the OU and got a first in 2007. I was ecstatic. Also, like you I went straight into journalism. Well done. I know you must have worked really hard, because I remember I did. X

    I have been away for such a loooong time that to come back to this when I used to read about your struggles with assignments was absolutely brilliant and incredibly well timed of me!!!
    Haven't read many (any) blogs regularly recently and I am enjoying rediscovering those I had forgotten about it :)

    That was a catchy tune. Congratulatons on your degree. That is a wonderful accomplishment. I should have finished mine. I retired now, but told my Hubs I wanted to take a writing class. He is still harping on finishing. It will never happen, though I don't mind the idea of taking more classes of interest. I really respect you for completing yours with honors!

Just like the Durrells, we moved from Dorset to Corfu, but eight decades later

So, what do you think of it so far? The Durrells , I mean. If you live in the UK, Sunday evenings on the telly have just got a whole lot gentler. The always-watchable Keeley Hawes heads the cast in a series based on Gerald Durrell's Corfu Trilogy. And it's pretty sublime. The warmth and light of Corfu shines through in this very enjoyable series. It's a bit like The Darling Buds of May  only set in Greece. Just the thing for a Sunday evening. It's got me hankering after Corfu, where I lived for a year in 2012-2013. I do pop back there from time to time and I know how lucky I am to have a foot in beautiful West Dorset and another in the jewel of the Ionian (although I have to be careful not to do the splits). Have a very merry Christmas

Looking around the house, the tree is up, the lights are twinkling and the cards are on display. We've come off one friend's Christmas card list, and not because they're saving paper. It's a bid sad, really, but if it's a small victory to them and makes them feel better, than I'm okay with that. I love Christmas cards and I love bumping into people in Lush Places dashing all over the village as they deliver their festive messages. Despite rancour and division, this is a time for goodwill to all. It's a time for kindness, happiness and being thankful for all we have. It's also a time to think - and do something about - those less fortunate than ourselves, whether it's in a hands-on way or something as simple as donating to Crisis at Christmas or giving your winter fuel allowance over to Dorset Community Foundation who will find someone who really needs it.
