New year, new me
As the wind rages around me and the rain lashes the roof, I'm thankful to be inside, drawing up my personal campaign for the year ahead.
I've got various writing and research projects to get my teeth into, including the paid and the not-paid. January is as good a time as any to plot the days, weeks and months ahead.
As far as my health and fitness goes, I need to get back to the gym on a regular basis, to firm up and also shed some of the pounds I put on over Christmas. I'd like to walk farther on my twice-daily trips with Arty, but that's not always possible on dark mornings and nights and through never-ending mud. I'm even contemplating getting Arty a playmate this year, although two dogs are double the work.
I want to do some voluntary work outside of my own Lush Places community because I need to get out more. Being chained to a laptop every day - writing - does nothing for my sanity. So I'm currently looking at a number of options which I might enjoy.
I'd like to take up singing again, because it's good for the soul and makes me smile, outside and in.
And I'll definitely be signing up for some more FutureLearn courses. These online courses are free - and absolutely brilliant. There is a huge range of courses provided by universities around the world. I just know I'm going to love exploring the night sky and improve my knowledge of astronomy, all through the constellation of Orion. Even if it does go over my head.
I find I'm much more productive when I'm busy.
What are your plans for 2018?
That's about it.
Love, Maddie
Having moved from Dorset to Halifax in West Yorkshire, just about everything I do is new. I even have an allotment. So my resolution is to try to be efficient about what I'm doing so I can fit in what I have already undertaken. It sounds boring but creating a practical routine feels very creative - a bit in the way writing out exam timetables is better than doing the tests. I would quite like to be in charge of the weather because although I usually like long winter evenings and late mornings I'm raring to explore more. But I don't think putting in a request to alter the weather would work.
